How do we navigate our creative callings in the midst of transitions?

In this episode of Live Creatively, I am talking with Paige Wiley, the Associate Director of Engagement for Made to Flourish. From her time working in Kansas State University’s Career Center, she recounted how impactful understanding one’s calling is. She shares the importance of understanding that our primary purpose is to know God and our secondary calling is stewarding the world around us.  Paige also encourages us to give ourselves some grace if we’re feeling a bit lost on how to discern the Lord’s call for our lives.

Listen in as Paige and I discuss the importance of understanding that there isn’t one “right” career path to pursue our calling. We are not alone in navigating our calling and the Lord loves us right where we are. Most importantly, He calls us to Him.

I loved what Paige had to say about how to pursue your calling and how wisdom + creativity plays a role in hearing from the Lord. Paige shares so much honest wisdom and encouragement on how to seek the Lord in our calling and gives peace to those feeling behind, rushed, or lost.

In this episode, Paige and I also discuss:

  • Her time working as a college career counselor and seeing how so many desire careers that help others
  • Where she got the inspiration for her book, Worked Up: Navigating Calling After College
  • Unveiling the myths of how we view work
  • Taking the time to listen to God, knowing that He gives us wisdom and discernment to make decisions regarding our careers
  • Life with God is a dance, not a checklist to cross off

What does it mean to Paige to Live Creatively?

I think that just speaks so intensely that God not only created us to work and that He gives us these inclinations towards different things in the world of work, but that all of us have this very hard-wired desire to work in order to serve people. I love that God gives us creativity not just in the spaces that we think of when we think of creatives, like painting or graphic design or writing, but that all of those spaces get to live creatively. We are all called to be creative in the way we not only work, but work well and steward those gifts toward virtuous work. I think that creativity is not just harbored to the so-called “creatives” that may be more artistically inclined, but that we all get to be creative in the ways we work – wherever that may be I think we’re all creatives.
