How can we come out of hiding and build up our confidence as creatives?

In my conversation with Kellie Smith, we dive deep into the importance of coming out of hiding and building confidence as creatives. Kellie graciously took us through her journey of gaining confidence as a creative and her evolving process of loving and owning her work.

Kellie and I talked about how having self-love and compassion towards yourself as a creative truly changes your work and why you need to be your biggest hype girl. Kellie also stressed how incredible our God-given gifts are, and once we come out of hiding, those gifts are meant to connect us to others. Creating from a place of self-love to help us connect with God and with others transforms the way we create. Kellie reminds us that God blesses each of us with creativity, and if we hold that back, other people are missing out.

Kellie’s energetic and passionate advice and encouragement will help you to see how your gifts are (1) from God, (2) meant to bless others, (3) meant to connect us to the people who are intended to come from your creativity.

In this episode, Kellie shares:

  • What the process of coming out of hiding has looked like for her over the years.
  • What has helped her build confidence as a creative.
  • How she began to truly live into her God-given gifts and talents.
  • How she was able to overcome her fears of judgment and comparison to fully embrace her identity as an artist.

What does it mean to Kellie to Live Creatively?

I think it is to live freely, without judgment or comparison. You are uniquely made for the creative adventure ahead of you. And just live into that.”

If you want to learn how to stop hiding and build your creative confidence, this episode is for you!

Kellie is a former high school art teacher and a Louisiana based artist who works in mixed media and encaustics. She has been showcased in multiple galleries and participates in artisan markets throughout the south.

Kellie grew up in the country playing outdoors and living in a world where imagination and creativity were encouraged. That environment allowed her to see the world differently than most, and she uses those experiences when working. Her focus as an artist is to create mixed media and encaustic paintings that inspire people. Kellie works wholeheartedly with her mind open and spirit free to allow every emotion to make its way from her soul to the canvas. For her, art has always felt like play. She experiences excitement and fulfillment with every piece she creates.
