How can we better navigate and overcome challenges as creatives?

In this episode, I chatted with a very close friend and creative peer of mine, Carissa Moddison. The story of our friendship is memorable to say the least! Carissa and I first met a few years back at a bomb threat on a college campus where we both taught graphic design classes. The building we were in was evacuated and we were standing outside next to each other and got to talking and realized that we both lived in the same small town in Oregon. So, we exchanged information and started meeting at Starbucks here and there, which turned into almost weekly co-working sessions. Today we live in different states, but remain very close friends and now we are even business partners.

Our conversation about overcoming creative challenges and how we can connect to our creativity in the midst of those challenges is so powerful! I know it’s going to resonate and encourage you wherever you are on your journey as a creative.

Carissa shares about what led her to design and how she overcame difficulties in her life to pursue a fulfilling creative career and build her own business in the midst of it all. She also shares some tips about how to connect with your creativity when you’re struggling to feel inspired as well as a personal story about how she once successfully overcame a major creative challenge.

What does it mean to Carissa to Live Creatively?

“To be open. To keep your eyes open to the things around you, to the experiences around you, to the things within you and what you’re capable of. I think being open and not isolated or bound allows a sense of freedom to allow you to live creatively, both in your work and in your personal life.”
